Configuring VLC for Playback
Out of the box, VLC Player is configured for quick and easy video playback using a single window. It can be configured for more advanced setups and can be a great primary playout application and an alternative to more resource intensive applications, such as ProPresenter.
This guide will walk you through how to configure VLC to be used as a playout application.
- Go to Preferences (Windows: Tools > Preferences, macOS: VLC > Settings)
- In the Interface tab, the following should be changed:
- ⌧ Show controls in full screen mode
- ⌧ Integrate video in interface
- ⌧ Pause playback when minimized
- ☑ Pause on the last frame of a video
- Continue playback: Never
- Show media change popup: Never
- In Subtitles / OSD tab, the following should be unchecked:
- ⌧ Enable On Screen Display (OSD)
- ⌧ Show media title on video start
- ⌧ Enable subtitles
Playing Video Files
To play a video file:
- Change to the Playlist view, if not already selected, by going to View > Playlist.
- Next, add the video to the playlist by drag and dropping.
- Play the video, which will popup a second window. You can move this window to a secondary screen and press the F key to full screen it.
- Use either the keyboard controls (ie, Spacebar) to play the video file.
